Hartshead Moor, M62

Article text
Travelling westward on the M62 you can give your Cesky Terrier a break at the highest service station in the UK - at Hartshead Moor in West Yorkshire, between junctions 25 and 26.

On a misty November day you can almost forget the traffic thundering past on the motorway and imagine yourself on a peaceful woodland walk.

Sadly, the area was not so peaceful on February 4th 1974 when a bomb expoded on a coach traveling along the M62. Twelve people, including two children were killed, and many others injured. There is a memorial marking the event outside the main building.
